Work Week 1 Complete

Well, officially the weekend over here in Thailand has come and gone and that means my second work week starts tomorrow... in other words my first week can be checked off! I've worked on the the farm chopping down bamboo and feeding the leaves to the goats with the intentions of making an herb garden. I have sat in the office, pretty much doing nothing all day on the computer or random ass jobs that someone else doesnt want to do. Not much of anything so far. Kids will arrive this week sometime and I am hoping that I get to help out with something! I honestly have no idea what I will be doing this week or for the rest of my time here in fact because I havent really been told. Kind of disorganized you could say, but oh well.

I can say that my first impression of living over here was a bit off than what I expected. First off I didn't think humidity could ever be this bad! I am constantly sweating and feel so sticky all the time. I am so happy to have air conditioning in my flat!

I have had my first introduction to rugby this past weekend. The world cup is going on so my co-workers introduced me to it via game watching in the boarding lounge. I have to say it is a bit rough but fun to watch. I did in fact fall asleep during a game though, not because I was bored, but because I was extremely tired from the night out on the town the night/morning before. I got shown around Chiang Mai on the back of a motorbike. Pretty fun way of traveling over here. EVERYONE and their mom drives one of these bad boys!!

I am missing home real bad right about now but am trying so hard to fight the emotions. I will get by.

Much love to everyone back home!

I made it safe and sound!

Well, the 14 hour flight went well. I got extremely lucky and had the whole row of 4 seats all to my self! I laid down and attempted to sleep for the most part but we all know how good of a sleeper I am... :( with earplugs and eye mask put into place, 4 travel pillows, 1 blanket, and a sleep aid, my first nap was for about 3 hours. I watched the movie Bridesmaids, which I was very excited to see but unfortunately I was let down. NOT a good movie at all! I attempted another nap, not sure how long I slept that time because I got woken up to eat my second meal of the flight. I watched the 4th Pirates of Caribbean movie. It was an alight movie. Anyways, I landed in Hong Kong and sat in the airport my connection flight to Bangkok for an hour and a half. Not bad timing. I got fed on that flight as well because it was a 2 1/2 hour flight I guess. I did fall asleep for the majority of that flight though! Upon my arrival in Bangkok, I met a very nice Thai girl who was actually aboard the flight from San Francisco. She was living in Eureka, which is very close to Novato where I was living for the summer with my sister. Small world right?! Anyways, she helped me with my direction out of the airport and such to find my hotel shuttle.  As soon as I walked outside the humidity drenched me! I knew it would be bad but it was just exhausting walking out to the shuttle in that heat! Got to my hotel and into my room, which was very cute and quaint but ohhhh soooo hot! Turned the air on and thought that it would never get cool! eventually it did. I took a cold shower to rid the smell of sweat and a long journeys worth of body odor! An instance here is where I actually need/want a watch! I have NO idea what the time is or even the slightest idea of how I will wake up in the morning for my flight to Chiang Mai! I went down to the front desk and asked for a wake up call at 3:30 am. At this time it was already 11:30 pm. Needless to say I havent gotten much sleep in the past 3 days! I meant to take a picture of my cute hotel room but it obviously was not on my top to do list as I forgot to! sorry to those of you would of liked to see the room! On to the Bangkok airport where I am checking my luggage. Apparently the fine print of AirAsia's luggage clause is that all bags together can not exceed 30kg! I unfortunately had 47 kg for both my bags! soooo I had to pay extra of course. Not what I had in mind for my morning wake up right?! anyways, landed in Chiang Mai and was greeted my bunkmate, Sofie. She is from the UK and has the cutest accent! We got to campus and she showed me around. We live on the top floor of our quarters in cluster 14 of campus with no elevator. Try lugging my bags up 3 flights of stairs! Definitely not fun either! I also dont have a bed yet! My boss, Mike, is actually really embarrassed of that fact....But I am not going to sleep until tonight! I have to power through and get on the same schedule as everyone else quick! Today is my relax day, and unfortunately when I relax I want to sleep if I'm tired, so I would rather be busy and be put to work! So I write! :) Lunch will hopefully wake me up some... because I need it! I am looking forward to a great adventure here at PTIS! You should look up the website if you get bored or are interested! I am apart of the Three Generations Visiting Schools Program which operates on the PTIS campus.

A new adventure begins.... NOW!

The day has come. The day to start my journey across the Pacific. As I sit in SFO looking out the giant window at the airplane I will be aboard for 14 hours straight I can't stop thinking of all my future travels and adventures awaiting my arrival in Chiang Mai, Thailand.

I have gotten my vaccinations (3 of 5 were oral vaccines because I can't stand needles!), I have received my visa, I have shopped for much needed items, I have packed and unpacked and packed again just to fit what I needed/wanted to pack, I have bought my roundtrip airfare, and now have been through 1 of 8 airports upon my roundtrip. Airports includes: San Francisco International airport, Hong Kong International airport, Bangkok International airport, Chiang Mai airport, Vancouver International Airport, and Portland International Airport.

I have said my goodbyes, I have said my fairwells, I am ready to begin a new chapter of my life for a short but long three months away from Oregon. I am so very excited to board my flight and get this thing started!! :)

I look forward to what lies ahead for me and I can't wait to share my memories with you all! STAY TUNED...
